Day and Night

I have decided on the Graffiti Type of Art. I put mine on Tar Paper used for roofing..
I know I have been looking at some other blogs and it looks like fun..So I tried.. It was fun, I really did not think. I just started putting layers down. And I ask my self what is some of my favorite things? Sun, Moon, Stars and Love!!!!!!!!...So I just went with it.
It is called Day and Night.....
I know I have not been posting as much and I miss everyone and I sure have not been visiting as much. The summer there is so much my Mom wants me to do.. Plant flowers and more flowers...Then she is teaching me how to plant a vegetable garden.. Then she wants me to paint her a sign for her front door. I could gone on and on. Oh yes, I know I have to go to the grocery store at least 2-3 times a week..Because she just needs what ever it is NOW!!!!!!!!!!...LOL
Yet I love her and she loves me. I am lucky to have her but if anyone wants to borrow her for a day or two. HA HA...
Have a good week.
May you always dream in color.

Your dear Mom sounds really sweet, I'd just love to visit and borrow her for the day, do some gardening out with the sunshine and flowers, and even make a run out to the store. You'd better stick with the sign-painting instead of me though, as you have the skill for that. What sort of vegetables will you be growing? I always liked the simple homegrown green beans.

Absolutely Love what you've done with the tar paper background too ... the bold colors, striking writing, and knowing just what to overlap where. :-)

Hi Katelen. I like that idea. In fact my husband is building a shed and just put the paper on the roof. La ti da. I got to try this. It will be fun. I'll have him cut me a 12 x 12. Thanks so much for the idea. I love it!! By the way, you are lucky to be able to care for your mom. My mom won't come over here with us, she wants to be on her own and it makes it hard for us. I can't be there 24/7. I had a room all set up for her because she had said "yes" and then she changed her mind. She is 88 and is right now recovering from hurting her back. I go there as much as I can and there is someone with her but she needs to come over to Modesto where we live. Hopefully she doesn't fall again. Take care of your mom. You are a good daughter. I love that grafitti.

Hi katelyn,

I love how this piece came out! There is lots of energy in it. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your graffiti art.

I am still in the States. I am helping my Sis take care of my Mom. I haven't mentioned it on my blog yet, but eventually will get around to that. I know you understand what I am going through since you are taking care of your Mom. I guess it's the cycle of life.

I meant to spell your name this way: Katelen

This looks great! Will you be joining the guys downtown later with some spraycans? Only kidding!! We have some legal graffitti walls here where you can work without getting arrested.

great artwork! it looks like it flowed so easily from you. I really enjoy the graffiti art, and am thinking of taking a class for fun.
I'm glad you are enjoying time outside, doing things, and helping your mom out. The blogs will still be there whenever you get a chance to sit at your computer. When the weather is nice, take advantage!

ha ha - that gave me a giggle Katelen. Your love for your mom shines through strongly!
I love your spontaneous play - and isn't tar paper fantastic stuff? I love it - prismacolor pencils sing off that black. I actually used to make jewelry with tar paper :) hard to imagine probably, but years ago it paid the bills so that I could create my 'real' art!
WIshing you moments for yourself, more creative time, and the knowledge that you are in my heart and thought of even when you are away. xo Karin

I love your graffiti! My daughter is so in to that right now too (http://crazyconsuela.blogspot.com). She's taking an on-line class with Alisa Burke and we both love the book, "Canvas Remix".
I know you're a good and patient daughter, but isn't it great that our art can help us work out that frustrating part of our lives.

Loving your graffiti art! I'd never heard of painting on tar paper,,,,sounds (and looks) most interesting.
If near, I'd gladly entertain your Mom for a few days. That thought made me smile when I read it.

Now that's some creative thinking, tar paper! Love what you did with it, something so freeing about just letting your instincts guide you and not over thinking a piece.

You know, sometimes I think that there should be a place designated for graffiti but then that won't be graffiti. A few years back we went around Austin just looking for and photographing graffiti. It looks like a lot of fun!
