I have not had much time for the studio. I am spending most of my time with my Mom. She is not doing well..She is getting more and more confused..Her dreams and reality are forming into one.. When she sleeps which is a lot but when she wakes up her dream continues on.. I could go on with story after story of her dreams..
To get to the pillow. Which is what you see in the photograph.. My Mom sewed when we were growing up.
She sewed for us and she sewed for others.. She later opened a shop when I was in school. She loved to sew, knit ,crotchet and anything to do with thread or fabric. Now she can not remember how to sew
Yet she is always dreaming of beautiful fabrics..Wonderful Dresses made in all colors.. Boxes and Rooms filled with fabric.. She has twice got the scissors and cut her sheet in half and then a pair of her pj's...When I ask her why she cut these things..She always says they needed repairing... No more scissors....
I decided to get some felt that we could cut together for fun..So we cut flowers out with no pattern...We did a few and then she says Ouch these scissors are hurting my hand... Just as a child would do after a few minutes.
I decided to take the flowers we cut out and I made this simple pillow out of burlap and then tried to sew the words by hand.. "Me And You" ..I am going to give it to her for a Christmas gift.. A memory we can keep....
Treasure every moment you have with your Mom. If your Mom is already left this world..Make something for in Memory of her... Just for your heart and soul...Or as for me and my Mom.....Heart and Sew.
THIS will be my last post for this year..I just want to say thank you to everyone that follows me and the ones who just stop by..
You all inspire me, and make me smile and sometimes laugh at loud .Then there are times your honesty of pain and sorrow makes me cry..I feel blessed for your friendship.
I hope all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
May God Bless .

Oh Katelen, I'm so very sorry. How wonderful though what you've done. You are a very good daughter. My mom was a seamstress and actually during her time she made Levi's. Can you believe that? Levi's. I love that pillow of just you and your mom. She's beautiful. I see the picture of the lady who has your heart and you are very lucky. Take care, thinking of you and your mom. Happy Holidays!
Thanks for the post : )
Happy Holidays
A love pillow,,how sweet that is, Katelen.
You are a very good daughter indeed. I know these times are hard, but I also know you are treasuring them, and making memories. She is very lucky too.
My Mom is gone almost 3 years now,,,her birthday would have been yesterday.I have some of the last embroidery pieces she was working on when she lost her sight, and I hope to be able to finish them.I'm not very good at it, but I know she wouldn't mind.
You will come to cherish this pillow.
My heart goes out to you, it's not easy.
Katelen,
Hugs to you. You are a wonderful daughter to be looking out for your Mother. And you're so right about treasuring the time we have with those we love.
This piece will be a loving memory of that project you started with your Mother. It's so cheerful in your photo too.
So sorry to hear about your mom. What a lovely treasure..!

Katelen what a precious thing to make for your Mom. I am sorry for the struggle she is having as well as you, I know it is not easy. I pray this is a blessed Christmas, full of love and good memories made.
Much love to you my friend!
je suis triste pour vous et votre maman.
je vous souhaite néanmoins une belle fête de noël!
Mom died two days before Thanksgiving. Caring for her the last couple of years is something I will always treasure. I especially enjoyed being with her as she floated back and forth from this realm to the other one. I think this altered state is a great preparation for the transition to come. Towards the end, there was always someone standing behind the recliner. When I'd go to turn off the TV for the night, Mom would ask if all the other people in the room minded. She was always asking where her coat and shoes were and if there was someone here who could take her home. It was sad and sweet and truly 'other worldly.'
Good wishes to you as you care for your mother.
Katelen, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, but I'm glad you're able to take this time to be with her. What a sweet project you've made. I like the idea of making something in memory of our moms who are no longer with us. I'll think about that in the days to come. My own mom was so crafty - I did not inherit that particular gene!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.
I can see why you said about the lady who has your heart..
Thanks for linking up! I'm flattered to have your support!

Stopping by to say Merry Christmas to you, your Mom, and all yours, Katelen.

Dear Katelen,
sorry to hear about your mom. This post is so sweet and tender, and so is the pillow.
I wanna thank you for your kind comments and support.
I wish you a nice Christmas and a wonderful 2011!
Sweet greetz and xoxo, Monica
PS the package is on your way.....:-)
This post is so sad and yet so beautiful. Your mom is lucky to have such a wonderful daughter, and you are lucky to still have your mom. It's good that you recognize that and have memorialized it with the pillow. It will be something you both can cherish.
Merry Christmas to you and your mom! Enjoy each and every day together.
Hi Katelen. Hope your Mom is doing a little better. Happy Holidays to you and your Mom. Enjoy the New Year. Take care.
Joyeuse fête de Noël et meilleurs voeux pour la nouvelle année 2011,
depuis la France,
je vous envoie
toute mon amitié.

Katelen, I am new to your blog. I remember watching this happen to my grandmother. I'm so sorry about all that your Mother is going through and how hard it must be to witness for you...You are so right, we must absolutely treasure every moment with our Moms, our daughters, sisters, husbands, fathers, brothers...all of our beloveds...each moment is precious, we get caught up in hurrying too often and miss the moment at hand. Your pillow is beautiful. I wish for you and your mother both, deep healing through your love for one another...even at times when she seems unable to express her love for you...she can feel your love for her...that will help her to feel safe when she is confused and you to know that you are doing exactly what you need to to care for her...just love, love, love.
beautiful
Katelen, I feel for what you are going through with your Mom. It is sad to witness the decline of a close family member. My mom is forgetful at age (almost) 77 and she is aware of it which she laughs about. Your mom is so fortunate to have you as a daughter. The pillow is wonderful! I love the simple, colorful shapes.
All the best, Mary Ann xo
