Open The Window

This is a piece I did a couple of years ago. It is a 5x7 on Canvas Board. It was published in one of SomerSet Studio Magazine Gallery Issues. You might want to click to get a better view.
It tells the story of how sometimes in our life there are people standing outside telling the world how they feel asking someone to listening to them. If we would just open the window to our hearts , we could hear a lot of voices asking for our help.. In this world we all at times seem not to notice that person on the sidewalk and we walk by without thinking. We close our hearts and are afraid to open that window.. Some because we have been hurt or some because we are just afraid.
Speaking for my self, I need to open up that window more and look around. I could be missing wonderful music coming from the street or missing the chance of meeting a new friend. Or missing the chance of a new journey.
So go ahead open up that window..You could be missing something special.
Have a good weekend and always remember to dream in color.

Katelen such a good post and worth taking to heart. It is so easy to just pass someone by without even seeing them. This brings to mind a quote by Vincent van Gogh in my first journal.
"There may be great fire in our soul, yet no one ever comes to warm himself at it, and the passers by see only a wisp of smoke coming through the chimney, and go along their way".
My prayer was/is to not just go along my way, but to pause, to engage the heart and soul.
Thanks for bringing this to mind again.

So often we fail to see the beauty around us,,,or feel another reaching out. May we all remember to open our windows more often.
Great post Katelen,,,,and a very thought provoking, strong work!

This piece could be a modern version of The Little Match Girl. It's an excellent artistic image with a powerful message for those who will listen and learn. I can also highly relate to Vincent van Gogh's quote as posted here by Mary. Thank you Mary, for posting the quote.

Fitting how you as an artist, Katelen Tays, suggest to us to be open as in "open our windows." Also fitting how van Gogh is open as seen through the wisp of smoke coming through the chimney. It speaks to the need or at least wish of an artist to communicate and even to seek out others to communicate with.
